Aeris Communications, which owns and operates the only cellular network designed and built exclusively for machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, announced today an expanded partnership with Acura to power the next generation of AcuraLink®, an advanced cloud-based connectivity system that will debut in early 2013 on the all-new 2014 Acura RLX luxury sedan.
The next-generation AcuraLink® system expands Acura’s provision of services for the connected car and the connected customer. For RLX models equipped with the Acura Navigation System, the new AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic™ service includes new surface-street traffic to go along with freeway and highway traffic information, giving the RLX owner a clearer picture of driving conditions, and the convenience of improved rerouting capabilities. The next-generation AcuraLink system also provides enhanced safety and security, CRM, and remote vehicle services, all provisioned over the Aeris network. Aeris partnered with Acura to provide the cellular connectivity, and assisted in the development, testing and optimization of these new AcuraLink solutions.
“Aeris has been an innovative partner as we incorporate more intelligent communications solutions to our vehicles,” said Charles Koch, Large Project Leader for AcuraLink at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Earlier this year we named Aeris the communications provider for HondaLink EV™, and the response from our customers has been positive. Because Aeris understands the unique requirements of cellular technology in the automotive industry, the selection of their services for AcuraLink was an obvious choice.”
“We have a lot of experience as a trusted partner to automotive OEMs, and we recognize that their challenges for vehicle connectivity are very different from mobile handsets. We understand that difference, we understand their business and we understand how to build a network that works for them,” said Steve Millstein, Aeris Managing Director – Automotive. “As such, we’re bringing solutions to Acura to ensure that they stay at the forefront of the industry and offer their customers the features and benefits they’re looking for.”
Aeris’ M2M platform enables a full-range of car-connectivity solutions, including messaging, data streaming, and on-demand voice connectivity. Aeris is enabling automakers, such as Acura and Honda, to have enhanced connectivity for the entire life cycle of the vehicle which greatly improves the business dynamics of their programs.
