Riders in Shanghai now can summon autonomous vehicles using a smart phone
application, thanks to a robotaxi trial service by SAIC Mobility and
Momenta. The company is testing and validating potential commercial
applications with 20 vehicles, powered by Momenta’s autonomous driving
technology. Momenta is a leading AI and autonomous driving company working
with some of the world’s top automotive OEMs and suppliers to scale safer
and more convenient driving through autonomous drive functions.
Chen Demei, Vice President of SAIC Motor said, “The launch of SAIC Mobility
Robotaxi is an important milestone for SAIC Motor’s strategy in
electrification, connectivity and shared mobility. Operations in Shanghai
and Suzhou will continue to contribute to the development of autonomous
driving capabilities, and provide better mobility service for our
customers.”
Cao Xudong, Momenta CEO said, “SAIC Mobility’s deep experience in mobility
service, combined with Momenta’s leading autonomous driving technologies
will create synergies and help deploy safer and more convenient driving
solutions for our customers. I believe this will become an industry
benchmark for in-depth collaboration between autonomous driving companies,
OEMs and mobility platforms.”
The fleet of vehicles was unveiled at the ” SAIC Mobility Robotaxi
Experience Day” held in Jiading, Shanghai. SAIC Mobility and Momenta are
exploring the application and innovation of L4 autonomous driving technology
in urban travel scenarios.
Riders can summon a robotaxi through the SAIC Mobility App with one-click.
SAIC Mobility will launch additional 20 vehicles in Shanghai, and 20
vehicles in Suzhou. SAIC Mobility will continue to expand its robotaxi fleet
next year.
Momenta is a leading autonomous driving company, committed to creating a
better future for smart driving through breakthrough AI technology. The
company has pioneered a unique scalable path toward full autonomous driving
by combining a data-driven approach that quickly iterates algorithms – its
flywheel approach – as well as a “two-leg” product strategy focusing on both
mass-production-ready highly autonomous driving solutions (Mpilot) and a
driving solution targeting full autonomy (MSD or “Momenta Self Driving”).
Last year Momenta deployed “Momenta GO,” its MSD solution to a fleet of
robotaxis in Suzhou.
Through the scalable path of “Flywheel L4”, Momenta can realize large-scale
implementation of autonomous driving more efficiently and quickly, enabling
safer, more convenient and efficient future smart driving.
At present, Momenta has established partnerships and strategic investments
with many leading global automakers including SAIC Motor, General Motors,
Toyota, Mercedes-Benz AG, and Tier 1 suppliers such as Bosch. In the
future, Momenta will work closely with industry partners to develop and
deploy leading autonomous driving technology suitable for the global driving
environment to accelerate the arrival of the era of smart driving.
