Foundry aluminium, which is used mainly in the automotive industry, is now available from Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) and forms part of the company’s long-term strategy for the future development of its Al Taweelah smelter.
The company plans to develop Al Taweelah into one of the world’s largest single-site smelters and estimates that production will rise to 1.3Mt after completion of phase-two development in 2014.
Based on 2011 sales figures, Asia (excluding China) accounted for 50% of sales and EMAL plans to increase sales by 5% in 2014.
The company estimates that sales growth in Europe will grow from 23% in 2011 to 35% by 2013 as it concentrates efforts on growth areas – such as Japan and Germany – where automotive industries are very strong.
