Ai INNOVATION, SINCE 1895

The automotive industry is facing the greatest transformation in its history. SEG Automotive continues to focus on growth and is investing in a new plant in Hungary. The global automotive supplier celebrated the laying of the foundation stone with the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Economics, Péter Szijjártó, and many of its local partners. In addition, the Hungarian government and SEG Automotive signed a strategic agreement for close cooperation.

Laying of the foundation stone conducted by Krisztián Bodnár, Mayor of Szirmabesenyő; Katalin Csöbör, MP in Hungary; Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade; Peter Sokol, CEO of SEG Automotive; Uwe Mang, Commercial General Manager of the plant in Hungary; Béla Szabó-Lukovszki, Technical General Manager of the plant in Hungary.

Hungary has played an important role in SEG Automotive’s global production network since 2003. The construction of a highly modern plant in Szirmabesenyő is a deliberate investment into continued growth. „The new plant with flexible, lean production processes will further strengthen our market position a leading global supplier in a highly competitive market,“ says Peter Sokol, CEO of SEG Automotive. „Here in Miskolc we manufacture easy to implement products with an immediate positive impact on reducing CO2 emissions, including fuel-saving start-stop starter motors and highly efficient generators for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. This not only helps our customers reach their CO2 targets, but also protects the environment: The products we manufactured in Miskolc in 2019 will save over 4 billion liters of fuel and almost 10 million tons of CO2 over their lifetime. The new plant also offers prime conditions for the future production of 48V and high voltage products,” said Peter Sokol, CEO of SEG Automotive.

“This investment by SEG Automotive greatly contributes to the Hungarian automotive industry remaining a flagship of the European automotive industry,” added Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Newly constructed plant will run at full capacity by July 2021

The new plant is being built only 3 km away from the previous site and will be located directly next to the logistics centre constructed in 2018. “The new plant offers us ideal conditions for further increasing the efficiency of our production and aligning it with the needs of the market, our customers and employees. In particular, we will set an increased focus on digitalization, automation and robotics for process optimization. With a total of 45,000 sqm including the logistics center, we will have room for further growth,” says Peter Sokol, CEO of SEG Automotive. By July 2021 the move will be completed and the plant will be producing at full capacity.

Strategic agreement with the Hungarian government

The importance of SEG Automotive as a major employer in the region is also demonstrated by Minister Péter Szijjártó’s attendance ceremony. He also signed an agreement with the Hungarian unit of SEG Automotive on strategic cooperation and intensive dialogue to promote the region.

Minister Péter Szijjártó and Commercial General Manager Uwe Mang signed the strategic agreement.
