OSRAM Applications Principal Scientist Thomas Tessnow will discuss the latest in advanced switching halogen lighting applications during the 2006 Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) World Congress. His presentation of a technical white paper titled “Low Power DC and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Operation of Halogen Bulbs” will take place on Tuesday, April 4 at 2:30 p.m., in Detroit’s Cobo Hall, room 03-45.
Authored by Tessnow in partnership with Michael Tucker, OSRAM applications group manager, and Dan Devir, principal engineer for OSRAM, the white paper discusses the effects of lower applied DC voltage (low and steady voltage) and PWM (intermittent power) to regulate halogen bulbs.
“We are now able to achieve multifunction use from a single bulb, such as high beam and daylight running lights, by regulating the power supply,” said Tessnow, who will discuss the guidelines for operating these advanced switching halogen applications by using the low power DC or the PWM approach during his presentation. “Advances like this make forward lighting more efficient while eliminating the need for a second set of bulbs.”
Since 1947, SAE World Congress has been the world’s largest meeting and exposition devoted to automotive engineering and product technology. OSRAM SYLVANIA representatives engage with the industry’s best and brightest automotive, technical and business talent to meet and exchange ideas concerning the future of automotive lighting technologies.
