Integrating fabricating

GM chief Rick Wagoner has announced that GM is increasing its operational efficiency by fully integrate its Metal Fabricating Division into GM Vehicle Manufacturing by January 2005.
The Metal Fabricating Division, created in 1994 to bring all of GM’s stamping and tool and die operations in North America under one group, is responsible for the stamping of vehicle sheet metal, and the engineering and testing of tools and dies used in stamping plants. By bringing those operations under GM Vehicle Manufacturing, the company will further eliminate redundant activities and accelerate its drive to bring more common practices to all GM plants, he said.
