WABCO, a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial and automotive vehicle industry, today announced that the company has developed and begun to supply an innovative air supply module and electronic control unit that operate rear axle air suspension on two new BMW 5 Series premium passenger car models.
Offered as a standard feature on both the BMW 5 Series Touring and 5 Series Gran Turismo models, rear axle air suspension automatically adjusts the vehicle to optimum ride height independent of the vehicle’s load. It further enhances driving comfort and improves vehicle safety.
Together with an electronic control unit, WABCO’s high performance air supply module includes the company’s newest generation of compressors with an integrated air dryer and air intake filter, acoustic and vibration isolation system, as well as an air-flow distribution valve-block that controls air spring actuation. WABCO’s air supply modules enable virtual silence during operation due the substantially improved acoustics of WABCO compressors.
“WABCO is proud to contribute to BMW’s new 5 Series platform and the superb driving dynamics of their Touring and Grand Turismo vehicles. We are also pleased that air suspension is a standard feature on these BMW models,” said Mike Thompson, WABCO Vice President, Car Systems. “We expect other leading car manufacturers to adopt cost effective, easy-to-install WABCO air suspension solutions, particularly as end-users increasingly value air suspension as standard equipment in premium passenger cars.”
Supplying vehicle makers in every region of the world, WABCO has more than 30 years of experience in the design and production of air supply modules and controls. WABCO air suspension systems for passenger cars are further differentiated through technology leadership and state-of-the-art vehicle system integration.
