The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns to Mexico for the sixth time in the series’ history next week, when the all-electric racing will take place at the Autodromo Miguel E. Abed outside the city of Puebla.
Thousands of local fans have been invited to watch the exciting, all-electric action at the permanent race circuit, which has previously played host to the NASCAR Mexico series and FIA World Touring Car Championship. The venue features an infield section surrounded by an oval, and the track layout for Formula E’s debut in Puebla next week shall use it’s original layout of 2.93 kms and 16 corners.
Oliver Turvey, #8 NIO 333 FE 001
“I am looking forward to racing in Mexico at a new track for Formula E in Puebla. The track looks challenging, with a unique part on the oval and a flowing in field section. I have spent time on the simulator with the engineers to continue working on developments and to prepare for this new track. I have great memories of racing in Mexico with some of my best results, so I will give my all to try to achieve the best possible result for the team.”
Tom Blomqvist, #88 NIO 333 FE 001
“We’ve had a bit of a break in travelling which has enabled us to reflect on the first few races and home in on some of the improvements we needed to address. It’ll be great to get the second half of the season underway in Puebla. It’s not a typical Formula E track, with more of a Valencia style permanent layout, and its own unique qualities that we’ve been looking closely at as a team. I know everyone at NIO 333 is super motivated and has been working hard during the past few weeks, so hopefully we can have a strong weekend, as always aim high and hopefully get some points. I’m really looking forward to getting the season restarted – it’s going to come thick and fast from now.”
Christian Silk, NIO 333 Formula E Team Principal “Mexico has always been a happy place for the NIO 333 FE Team, and we have had some great results there. This year we are facing a fresh challenge as we are going to the Puebla circuit for the first time. Fortunately, we do have some team members who have raced at Puebla with other formula, so we do have some inside information. But there was still a lot of homework to do so we have been working hard at our simulators preparing for the race, and the engineers and drivers have made some more steps in terms of car performance, so we can feel confident going into this race for another strong weekend.”
Rounds 8 and 9 of the 2021 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship take place in Puebla, Mexico on 19th and 20th June.
