Sika Automotive is a finalist for its SikaPower-550® G Structural Adhesive for Automobile Assembly in the Engineering & Materials Science category.
SikaPower-550® G adhesive combined the requirements of three separate Ford materials specifications into one single specification with compatibility to steel & aluminum. Along with this demanding challenge, a number of other requirements were also met: it was to be used in multiple areas of the body structure, including the hem-flange, necessitating inclusion of glass beads while maintaining crash durable performance; an improvement in open time; increased stress durability performance of the bond under constant static load in a corrosive environment; improved humidity resistance; engineered/formulated to cure at a lower bake temperature window.
“It is truly an honor to be recognized as a finalist in the Edison Awards. We are also grateful for our long-term partner Ford, who we worked closely with to bring this innovation to the market. Sika continuously looks forward to developing more innovations from concept to reality in the future. “ says Greg Moran, Vice President, Head of Global Marketing.
