FCA US LLC has announced Metalsa, a supplier of structural components for light and commercial vehicles, as the Sustainability Supplier of the Year Award winner during the sixth annual Qualitas Award Ceremony in Detroit. During the ceremony, Metalsa was one of 23 recognized automotive suppliers demonstrating remarkable dedication to the fields of innovation, quality, diversity, continuous improvement and others.
Metalsa was named Sustainability Supplier of the Year for its recent sustainability efforts, including adopting the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) Sustainability Supplier Self-Assessment (SSSA), a standardized corporate social responsibility gap analysis and process improvement tool, as well as integrating improvements and sustainability best practices more fully into its business culture. Also, Metalsa shared its Supplier Development Program with FCA US; the program is an initiative to support Metalsa suppliers with assessments, trainings, and more to strengthen the overall supply chain.
“Metalsa keeps growing in the automotive industry by operating in a way that positively impacts the world and ensuring long-term success with all our stakeholders,” said Metalsa CEO Leopoldo Cedillo. “Strengthening our supply chain reinforces our commitment of providing better, new and sustainable solutions for the industry.”
Metalsa has built on the SSSA and created several new tools to measure its progress in its internal application and with its suppliers. This is just part of the company’s effort to minimize risk to Metalsa and FCA US by providing tools and messaging that encourages the supply chain to adopt sustainable practices with the goal of improving the social, economic and environmental health of the communities it impacts.
The Qualitas Award Ceremony is part of the automaker’s Supplier Development Program, which strives to strengthen the supply chain by partnering with suppliers to evaluate and redesign their operative strategy, while supporting them with training and best practices.
