Swiss u-blox, a global leader in cellular, short-range radio and positioning modules and integrated circuits, announces that its Cat. 4 TOBY-L200 4G LTE module has achieved “network compatible” status for North Americas largest LTE network. In the u-blox tradition of miniaturization and reliability, TOBY-L200 is the world’s smallest Category 4 LTE module and operates at automotive temperatures (-40 degrees C to +85 degrees C).
Â
The approval allows customers to design the tiny TOBY-L200 module into automotive, industrial, and consumer devices operating on North Americas extensive 4G LTE networks. In addition, TOBY-L200’s fall-back capability to HSPA+, HSPA, and GSM allows customer devices to operate and roam globally or in areas where LTE coverage is not available. Its data and voice capabilities make it ideal for applications like car infotainment and navigation systems, tablets and notebooks, set-top boxes and rugged handsets. Other applications which benefit from TOBY-L200’s versatility are high-speed M2M uses such as digital signage, transit systems, mobile health products, as well as remote monitoring and video systems.
Â
“u-blox is proud that our TOBY-L200 module is now certified on all major North American 4G LTE networks,” said Nikolaos Papadopoulos, president of u-blox America. “Our robust voice and data module delivers powerful 4G LTE performance with 3G and 2G fallback in the smallest package on the market. With Cat. 4 performance of 150Mbps speed, it is also the fastest LTE modem on the market.”
Â
TOBY-L200 is a complete 4G/3G/2G voice/data module for applications which require also roaming outside of North America’s 4G LTE networks. It provides full circuit-switched voice and data capability as well as a full suite of IP protocol stacks including dual IPv4/IPv6 stack for “Internet of Things” (IoT) security.
Â
TOBY-L200 provides efficient and cost-effective mobile connectivity in a miniature 24.8 x 35.6 mm LGA form factor. The module is layout-compatible with u-blox’s GSM/GPRS and HSPA/HSPA+ modules, such as SARA-G3, SARA-U2, as well as with LISA-U2, supporting backward-compatible designs and single-SKU products.
Â
All TOBY modules share the same form-factor and footprint and are designed based on u-blox’s “Nested Design” philosophy. This allows engineers to develop one hardware/software platform to support GSM/GPRS, HSPA, LTE, and multi-mode operation depending on customer requirements.
Â
TOBY-L200 hosts multiple embedded IP protocols, such as TCP/IP, UDP/IP, HTTP, FTP and SSL. The pin and software compatible version for EMEA/APAC, TOBY-L210, incorporates in-band modem support for automotive emergency calls like eCall and ERA/GLONASS.
Â
With direct A-GPS support for accelerated positioning and u-blox’ unique CellLocate(®) hybrid positioning technology, TOBY-L200 is designed to perfectly match u-blox advanced GNSS positioning capabilities, including indoor positioning.
Â
Linux supports TOBY-L200 drivers natively; RIL software for Android and Embedded Windows is available free of charge from u-blox.
