BorgWarner Turbo Systems Receives Porsche Supplier Of The Year Award

BorgWarner Turbo Systems Presented with Top Honor for Delivering Consistent High Quality, Reliability and Outstanding Performance with Innovative, Fuel-Saving Turbocharging Technology

BorgWarner Turbo Systems received first prize as one of ten 2011 Porsche Supplier of the Year Award winners at a ceremony held recently at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. BorgWarner Turbo Systems, located in Kirchheimbolanden, Germany, was honored for its high quality, reliability and outstanding performance as well as its innovative partnership with Porsche in the development of the world’s first mass-produced variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbocharger for gasoline engines.

“We are very proud to receive this prestigious award from Porsche, honoring our efforts to provide state-of-the-art turbocharging technology and meet Porsche’s high quality and reliability standards,” said Frederic Lissalde, President and General Manager, BorgWarner Turbo Systems Passenger Car Products. “I would like to thank our employees who make a substantial contribution to the success of our company. This award accelerates our passion to continuously expand our expertise in turbocharging technology. We look forward to continuing our successful partnership with Porsche.”

VTG turbocharging technology has been used to improve the performance, fuel economy and emissions of diesel engines for years. However, it has long been considered infeasible for gasoline engines because of high exhaust gas temperatures, which reach up to 1,000 degrees Celsius. Using special materials and designs as well as an optimized VTG mechanism, BorgWarner developed a reliable turbocharger capable of operating under very harsh conditions and at high thermal loads.

The combination of BorgWarner’s advanced turbocharging technology and Porsche’s engine design expertise produced the world’s first mass-produced gasoline engine boosted by a VTG turbocharger. BorgWarner is continuously improving its VTG turbocharging technology to serve the increasing global demand for fuel efficient, high-performing engines that also contribute to a cleaner environment.
