Energy Globe Awards ceremony in the grand ceremonial hall of the Vienna city hall! On 13th September 2012, the Energy Globe World Awards for the five categories of Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Youth will be presented. The most exceptional and sustainable projects focusing on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and preservation of resources will be presented with their award. Nominees will be representing many different countries worldwide. High profile laudatory speakers, among them Indian parliamentary representative Maneka Ghandi, will be presenting the awards. This year’s Energy Globe Awards will be presented as part of the 29th International CIRIEC Congress, which will be held from September 12-14, 2012 at Vienna city hall. Energy Globe founder Wolfgang Neumann: “We are extremely pleased that CIRIEC is coming to Vienna, a city that has so much to offer in terms of sustainability and environmental friendliness.”
This year’s CIRIEC Congress is organized by VÖWG, the Austrian Association for Public and Social Economy. CIRIEC 2012 will be focusing on future opportunities and risks for public and social enterprises and, in particular, on public interest efforts. For more details see www.ciriec.2012.org.
Meanwhile phones have been ringing off the hook at Energy Globe headquarters. Award nominees all just have one question: Will they be the recipient of this word wide coveted environmental award?
Lakota Chief Red Cloud, who was nominated for his solar energy training program, is drumming the good news across the Great Plains of South Dakota. The Peruvian nominees would like to know if there is a dress code for the ceremony — they are hoping to receive the award for their solar house project in the Andes. Kenya’s wave of excitement was as sudden as it was happy: “Thank you, Charles Kalama!” His life project is a plastic recycling plant that manufactures fence posts, for which there is a great need in Kenya. All in all there is much excitement and enthusiasm among the 16 nominees from 14 different countries. For many of them this invitation to Vienna is the crowning event of their lifelong effort towards a better environment and the welfare of their people. This year, the Energy Globe Awards will be presented for the 12th time. With 151 participating countries this is the world’s biggest and most important environmental platform. Thanks to prominent supporters such as Kofi Annan, several presidents of the EU Parliament and EU Commission, EU environmental ministers, UNESCO, UNIDO, UNEP, and celebrities such as Martin Sheen, Aamir Khan, Alanis Morissette, etc., Energy Globe has become a global beacon for environmental awareness and sustainable actions.
CIRIEC, headquartered at the Belgian city of Liège, is an international research and information center for public enterprises. As a member of CIRIEC, VÖWG represents the interests of the public economy and services of general interest. It represents the Austrian section of the European Centre of Employers and Enterprises providing public services (CEEP), which again is part of EGB, Business Europe.
