Military vehicle supply chain

Globalization is also affecting the military vehicle supply chain. Governments no longer source locally or from allies as a matter of course – suppliers now have to compete much more aggressively.

Today’s fighting forces need a fleet of vehicles that can meet the rapidly evolving support requirements for strategic missions. The priority is to provide a variety of added capabilities, while significantly decreasing costs and increasing efficiencies. In order to match this “dramatic” change the way the industry does business, the annual Military Vehicles Exhibition and Conference says it is expanding its focus.

Already the largest stand-alone military vehicles exhibition in the US, MVEC 2011 says it now incorporates the entire supply chain, addressing mission-critical imperatives:

• Synchronizing the plans and actions of all agencies involved In procurement, integration, sustainability and management of vehicles

• Adjusting fleet size and mix to ensure all services have the right vehicles at prices in line with budgetary requirements

• Advancing research and development to ensure that vehicles have the necessary armor and weapons as well as the power and capacity to carry them

• Outfitting vehicles with updated technology, including communication, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance equipment
