Honda recently honored Metaldynes Ridgway, Penn., facility as an outstanding supplier in corporate citizenship for its commitment to environmental issues, health and safety, diversity, community involvement, government relations and ethics and compliance.
The Ridgway facility was honored as a runner up in this category at the annual Honda Supplier Conference in Birmingham, Ala. Metaldyne was among 77 suppliers recognized for outstanding performance in the areas of quality, cost and delivery and corporate citizenship. In all, Honda has 600 North American suppliers with purchases last year totaling $16 billion.
– We are honored to be recognized by Honda for outstanding corporate citizenship,- said Tim Leuliette, Metaldyne’s chairman, president and CEO. – At Metaldyne we are not only committed to operational excellence we also are dedicated to being a responsible global partner with business, community and government to advance social and economic well being.
This was the first year Honda presented the Corporate Citizenship Award to encourage and challenge its suppliers to give back to their communities.
– Just as Honda sets high targets for customer satisfaction, we also set high targets for our relationship with society, – said Akio Hamada, Honda of America Mfg. president and CEO. – Our goal is to be viewed as a company that society wants to exist. This means very specific expectations for ourselves and our suppliers. To emphasize the importance of this area, we have established a new supplier award.
Metaldyne Ridgway supplies powder metal connecting rods for the Honda Odyssey, Pilot and V6 Accord and powder metal bearing caps for the V6 Honda Accord and V6 Acura TL.
Honda sold 1.6 million cars and light-duty trucks last year in North America as well as 650,000 motorcycles, ATVs, and personal watercraft — the majority made in North America. Honda’s U.S. manufacturing operations began in 1979 with Honda of America Mfg.’s motorcycle plant near Marysville, Ohio.
